“Licensed” is not a complete answer
A casino can truthfully hold a gambling licence somewhere in the world and still not belong on the regulated casino list for your Canadian province. The useful question is not only “Is this casino licensed?” but also “Licensed by whom, for what, and does that establish authorization where I am?”
Ontario
Ontario's regulated commercial iGaming market uses provincial oversight and the iGaming Ontario operator framework. For a practical consumer check, match the exact website and legal operator against the current iGaming Ontario directory.
An offshore or international licence does not substitute for that Ontario check.
Alberta
Alberta's framework is evolving and should be checked against the current provincial regulator and iGaming Alberta sources. A supplier, applicant, international licensee or Canada-facing website should not be described as Alberta-authorized unless the current Alberta source supports that conclusion.
Other provinces
British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan use PlayNow under different provincial operators. Québec uses Loto-Québec/Espacejeux. Atlantic Lottery serves the Atlantic provinces, but product availability can differ by province.
That is why CasinoList.ca keeps province-specific records instead of describing a brand as simply “legal in Canada.”
International licences
International or non-provincial regulators can still provide useful evidence. They may help verify an operator's legal entity, domain, licence number or current licence status. Examples encountered in our research include Curaçao, Malta, Kahnawake, Tobique and Anjouan.
We record that evidence when it is material, but we do not convert it into a Canadian provincial authorization claim.
Payment methods are not a licence
Support for CAD, Interac, Canadian banks, Canadian sports or Canada-targeted marketing may show that an operator wants Canadian customers. It does not establish provincial authorization.
What to do with conflicting claims
When an operator's own pages disagree about its legal entity, licence number, regulator or current domain, the correct status is unresolved until stronger evidence settles the conflict. A review score should never be used to fill that gap.
